Prayer Shawl Ministry

Prayer Shawl Ministry
A Prayer Shawl provides great comfort; it is warmth and a blessing to the recipient.  People who could benefit from a prayer shawl may be undergoing lengthy treatments or surgery, suffering from illness, having lost a loved one, or going through any other difficult or stressful time.

It takes a long time to make a prayer shawl.  Each shawl is created by hand, and prayers for the recipient are woven into each stitch.  Before the shawls are presented, they receive a final blessing at a worship service where the congregation takes part.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry of St. John’s had its beginnings in June of 2015. As of 2019, a total of 100 shawls have been created, donated, blessed and presented. In addition, small crocheted Pocket Prayers are available upon request.

Knitters and crocheters are always needed (patterns and yarn are available).  If you are interested in contributing your talents by making a shawl or requesting a shawl, please contact St. John's United Church office at 705-435-6732 or by email.
